Althea Langford Warnick Obituary (1925 - 2016)

Althea Langford Warnick passed away peacefully on November 3, 2016. Althea was born in American Fork, Utah, on August 8, 1925, and was the third child of George and Elda North Bailey in a family that would grow to eight children; five girls and three boys. She graduated from Granite High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in Bacteriology, then a Master's Degree and a PhD in Microbiology/Virology from the University of Utah. She worked at the Salt Lake County Hospital and the Utah State Health Department Laboratory and retired in 1986 as the Director of the Bureau of Microbiology and Assistant Director of the State Laboratory. Althea married Richard Bailey, who preceded her in death in 1967. She was then married for eight years to Francis Carlisle, who also preceded her in death. On August 1, 2008, after living in St. George and being a widow for 24 years, Althea married the love of her life, Stephen L. Warnick. They had known each other in high school, remaining friends through the years and even working together at the State Health Laboratory. Their marriage has been filled with love and devotion to each other. They enjoyed being together, going fishing, traveling, and spending time with their family. Althea had a green thumb and has always loved to garden. She grew beautiful flowersa"including roses, peonies, and all kinds of cactus. She also enjoyed reading and sewing. Althea learned to snow ski at age 42 and enjoyed this sport for several years. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served in many positions, including Preparedness Coordinator, Relief Society Teacher, Relief Society President, and in the Extraction Program. She has also participated in humanitarian efforts for many years. She served as a welfare missionary in the Philippine Baguio mission in 1987-1988, and has worked in both the St. George and Mt. Timpanogos temples. Althea is survived by her devoted sweetheart, Steve, and his six children; Scott (June); Paul (Rene); Donna (Roy Taylor); JoAnn (David Baria); Chris (Gregory Cooper); Thomas; 50 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Sherman Langford. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Manila Stake Center, 850 North 900 East, American Fork. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:45 AM with the service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
