Bart F Whitehead, 66, of Orem passed away peacefully after a long illness Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Intermountain Medical Center surrounded by family. Bart was born December 12, 1954 in Soda Springs, Caribou, Idaho to Rulon Parnell "Joe" Whitehead and Nona Andersen.
He grew up in Grace, Idaho, and graduated from Grace High School in 1973. He participated in school activities and loved to ride his snowmobile over the fields of Grace during the winter months and his motorcycle the other months. He worked turning sprinkler pipe in the potato fields.
After graduation he attended Brigham Young University for a year, worked at Gossner Foods in the cheese factory, and eventually moved to Provo, Utah, where he worked for LaBelle's Catalog Store, which was later Best. During the time he worked for LaBelle's he met his companion, Nina Abbott. They were married in the Provo Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity on August 23, 1984.
Bart and Nina bought a home in Orem and started their family. They had three children--Nathan, Angela, and Lisa. Before Angela was born, Bart completed his certification in electronics at Utah Technical College and was hired to work as an Electronic Technician at BYU on January 25, 1988. He completed 33 years of service repairing and creating analytical equipment for the Department of Chemistry and the College of Life Sciences. In March 2016 Bart was selected to receive one of BYU's annual Presidents Appreciation Awards. The award was given June 14, 2016, and he was again recognized at University Conference in August.
Bart loved working with electronics. He was always looking for fun electronically-run additions for his home. He also loved model airplanes and drones. He got his HAM radio license and got Nina to also get hers and they were active in a HAM radio group for many years.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities including Primary teacher, Sunday School presidency, and Cub Scouts. Bart was eventually a Commissioner in the Utah National Parks Council. He built a Pinewood Derby track and created his own electronic scoring system for it. He really enjoyed taking the track to the derbies, but the most fun was letting the scouts and their siblings race their cars afterwards. Bart also served as a Stake Clerk and later as a Stake High Councilor starting January 11, 2009.
In the last six years of Bart's life, he battled liver and kidney disease. He received a liver transplant April 8, 2017, and a kidney transplant December 31, 2019. His family is so grateful for his medical teams at Intermountain Medical Center Transplant Services who worked so hard over the years to help lengthen his life.
Bart is survived by his wife, Nina Elizabeth Whitehead, Orem, and three children: Nathan David Whitehead, Orem, Angela Elizabeth Whitehead, Orem, and Lisa Dawn (Brett) Scoville, Coppell, Texas; and his brother: Brent (Kathleen) Whitehead, Bexley, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos Park Fifth Ward Chapel, 1000 North Main Street, Orem, where family and friends may attend a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
