Charleen Gillman Bylund Astin

–

Pleasant Grove, Utah

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charleen Gillman Bylund. Charleen was born on April 1, 1939, and passed away on October 18, 2026. She grew up in Lindon, Utah, the daughter of Kenneth and Velma Gillman, and sister to Maxine, Janice, (Aunt Judy) and Baby Ann.

Charleen’s greatest joy in life was her family. At a young age, she married John L. Bylund, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised their five children in Pleasant Grove and built a successful plumbing and heating business. Charleen was a devoted and supportive mother who was always there to cheer on her children and celebrate their accomplishments. She and John created many cherished memories together through hunting trips, family vacations, and fun-filled outings to Lake Powell.

Charleen lovingly cared for Dad throughout his lengthy illness until his passing in March 2001. In 2003, she found happiness again when she met and married Delbert “Bud” Astin. Together, they enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to serve three missions: at Temple Square, Cove Fort, and Mosida. They shared many meaningful experiences during their years together until Bud’s passing in 2017.

Charleen loved life and brought her lively spirit and enthusiasm to everything she did. She learned the value of hard work and carried that lesson with her throughout her life. She cherished the lasting friendships she made through a special club that brought her and her dear friends together for more than 50 years. Charleen was also actively involved in her community, generously giving her time and energy to local activities, including serving on the Strawberry Days Committee.

Charleen had a great testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many callings, including Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, missionary work, and as a temple worker.

She is lovingly remembered by her five children, Brad (Karolyn) Bylund, Tonya (Tim) Hunt, Sherry (Richard) Smith, Rodney (Lana) Bylund, and Heidi (Todd) Healy; 17 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister, Janice Peacock; brother-in-law, Larry Iverson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her dear friend, Arnell Winters, will also cherish her memory.

It is true that we are deeply saddened by her passing, but we believe that she is in a much better place and having a glorious reunion with many loved ones. We know death is not the end and that we will see her again. Thank you, Mom and Granny, for all the wonderful memories that will keep you alive in our hearts forever. Until we meet again.
