Christopher Fredrick Nelson, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Chris was born on December 1, 1962 to Dennis Glen Nelson and Julene Ostrander in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in West Valley City, and earned his GED a few years after having attended Kearns High School.\n\nChris was kind and loving, and he made friends easily. He had a fun-loving sense of humor, and he loved making other people laugh. Chris had the best laugh, and you could count on him to bring levity to most situations. He was skilled in many types of carpentry, landscaping, masonry, and tiling. He enjoyed helping out friends and neighbors with various projects. He worked in a variety of jobs – cooked in restaurants, did some surveying, painting, masonry, tiling, and various construction jobs. He even created and installed cultured marble, eventually working his way to Production Manager. Chris had an ability to think outside the box, resulting in creative solutions to complex problems. He was always the first to offer assistance to anyone in need, especially those who were disabled or had special needs. His neighbors will truly miss Chris offering his help and assistance with any project they had.\n\nChris hosted a group of friends every two weeks for bible study. He loved to cook for them, talk about their deep and abiding love of the Savior Jesus Christ, and keep their friendship fresh and alive. He truly enjoyed watching Nascar, visiting with others online about the Lord, and reconnecting with family who lived very far away. Chris moved in with his mother in Pleasant Grove in 2017 after her husband had passed, and was so helpful with keeping the yard well-maintained. He enjoyed planting a vegetable garden, cooking, trying out new recipes, refinishing furniture, and being a wonderful companion. Chris would often express his love to others by gifting them his beautiful artwork or poetry. He had suffered from debilitating back pain since his late-20’s, but kept a positive outlook and demeanor with all.\n\nChris was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Nelson; stepmother, Vicki Nelson; and stepfather, Kent Hoffman. He is survived by his mother, Julene Hoffman of Pleasant Grove, UT; sister, Diana (Kevin) Knight of Bend, OR; brother, Jeffrey (Denise) Nelson of Palmer, AK; sister, Colleen (Terry) Hughes of West Jordan, UT; stepbrother, Jack Warner of Arnold, MO; and many nieces and nephews. He had been married twice, but never had any children of his own. \n\nFriends and family are warmly welcomed to a memorial service to be held for Chris at 11 am on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah.\n\nCondolences may be sent to the family at olpinmortuary.com.
