Our kind, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, David Keith Pack, passed away peacefully at his home on February 8, 2023. He was born June 4, 1935 at LDS hospital in Salt Lake City. His father, Keith Knowlton Pack, was a motion picture salesman, and his mother, Florence West, was a certified Red Cross nurse.

David spent most of his boyhood in Missoula, Montana, a place he looked back on fondly throughout his life. He went to South High in Salt Lake City, but, skipped his senior year to start at the University of Utah, after receiving a Ford Foundation scholarship. There he met his wife, Laura Slater, who was also attending the University of Utah on a Ford Foundation scholarship.

He paused his studies from 1955-58 to do missionary work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Japan East Mission. David and Laura wrote each faithfully during this time, and upon his return they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 11, 1959. There are no words that can describe the bond of love shared between David and Laura. Although she passed away in 2007, she never left his heart and he fervently looked forward to their reunion.

They honeymooned their way to China Lake, California, where he had a summer internship with the Department of the Navy. His internship turned into a 30-year career as an Operations Research Analyst, where he worked in weapons and warfare analysis as well as weapons acquisition programs. A brilliant mathematician, his work helped Navy leadership plan and implement weapons systems, and helped the Navy plan missions and contingencies for emerging national-defense concerns. He was awarded the Superior Civilian Service medal for his significant contributions to the national defense. In 1990 he retired, and they moved to Orem, Utah, where he lived the remainder of his life.

David was a quiet, humble man with a deep testimony of Jesus Christ and the gospel. He served in many callings in the Church, including Bishop and High Counselor. He also found great joy serving in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He dedicated his life to the study of the gospel and his family history. His family history research was completed with the same care and dedication to detail as his professional work. He compiled written histories on as many ancestors as possible, and also contributed his own.

A devoted father and husband, David doted on his wife as she was stricken with crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis. He provided for and cared for his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout his life. There are many quiet acts of service that went unnoticed. He was an avid book collector, and, would instantly retrieve a book on any subject for any guest. He was a skilled violinist and singer, often singing solos at church and weddings. Brilliant, loving, funny, and faithful to end, he will be greatly missed. We testify to his life well-lived.

He is survived by his children, John (Sue) Pack, Roger (Barbara) Pack, Kathryn LeMair, and Jenny (Jesse) Hamilton, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
