Dee H. Walker, 84, of Alpine passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Dee was born November 10, 1930 in Provo, Utah to Calvin A and Lucille Wright Walker. He married Deanna (Candy) Waite on August 12, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.\n\nDee grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He then attended the University of Utah and received a degree in Chemical Engineering. He obtained a Master's Degree from the Oakridge School of Technology. While there he worked with a team building the first nuclear submarine, the Nautilus. He later received a PhD. from the University of Pittsburgh in Nuclear Engineering. Dee was a renowned scientist who worked at the nuclear site in Idaho and at Offshore Power Systems in Jacksonville, Florida for many years. He retired from SAIC in Las Vegas in 2002.\n\nDee was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many capacities including Bishop and as a member of the Stake Presidency in Jacksonville.\n\nDee could often be found in the garden with his dogs or in his favorite chair reading his books. He loved the scriptures and they were always his companion. Not only did he know them, he lived them. Dee loved to travel, often using many circuitous routes much to the family's dismay, such as the night they got lost in a corn field in Iowa. The grandchildren loved the wild Sunday afternoon drives with Papa Dee, never knowing what new adventure awaited them. Dee loved his family very much and was proud of all of their achievements.\n\nHe is survived by his best friend and sweetheart, Candy of Alpine; his six children Reed (Hollie Puckett), Bradley (Kim Balbin), Jess (Cathy Slaydon), Polly Sheffield (Clark), Clay, Glenn (Christine Butler); his twenty three grandchildren and five great grandchildren with two on the way; his siblings James (Marlene), Mary Caldwell (LeMoyne), Jerry (Marcella), Nancy Spurlock (Pat), Dean Davis (brother-in-law), Kent (Jill), Glen (Marilyn). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Della Davis, and infant daughter Betsy Lucille.\n\nFuneral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Alpine Matterhorn Chapel, 285 North Matterhorn Drive, Alpine. Family and friends may attend a viewing Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am.
