Delbert "Bud" Fullmer Astin Obituary (1935 - 2017)

Delbert "Bud" Fullmer Astin, 82 of Lindon passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 in Highland, Utah surrounded by his loving wife and children after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Chicago, Illinois March 28, 1935 to Delbert R and Olive Fullmer Astin. In 1938 he moved with his family to Salt Lake City where he attended schools, graduating from South High School. After high school he served a three year LDS mission in Japan. After returning from his mission he joined the Army National Guard where he served for three years. He married Marjorie Marchand and together they had five children. They were later divorced. He then married Carol Southwick who passed away after two years of marriage. Bud retired from Prudential Insurance after 32 years. He enjoyed running and participated in the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George for 19 years. He was chosen to be a torch carrier in the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics and has completed many 5k, 10k and marathon races across the state of Utah. He loved traveling, gardening, hunting, fishing and skiing, but most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different callings. He truly exemplified a true love of Christ and was an example to all that knew him. He loved everyone and saw the good in all. He married Charleen Gillman Bylund in 2003. They served three LDS missions to Salt Lake City Temple Square, Cove Fort and a Pioneer Trek Mission in Mosida, Elberta, Utah. Bud is survived by his wife Charleen, children: Stephen (Tami) Astin, Suzanne Gould, Amie (Blake) Smith, Christopher (Jay) Astin, Emily Astin, Nine grandchildren and one great grandson. And siblings: Jean Nelson and Paul Astin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Melvyn Astin. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Lindon Third Ward Chapel, 320 W. 500 N. where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9 - 11 a.m. prior to the services.
