Donald Kent Gurney, 71, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at home from a rare autoimmune disorder surrounded by his wife and daughters on January 14, 2016. He was born June 6, 1944 in American Fork, Utah to Donald & Ireta (Flanders) Gurney. He married Carolyn Colledge on July 14, 1962.\n\nHe retired from Geneva Steel after 30+ years and then worked in India and Thailand as a Steel Consultant. He was an avid BYU football fan and held season tickets for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and ATV riding with his family and friends. For the last 10+ years, Kent and Carolyn have enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona.\n\nHe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.\n\nHe is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 53 years. He is also survived by his three daughters, Shalane (Joel) Affleck, Jodi (Mike) Petersen, and Stephanie (Cory) Hunter. At his time of passing, he had 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Lena Gean Phelps, and his brothers Ron (Karen) Gurney and Rick (Jacque) Gurney. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and in-laws, Ivan and Fern (Calson) Colledge, and by his beloved grandson, Ryker James Myers-Affleck.\n\nFuneral services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Pleasant Grove Twelfth Ward Chapel, 828 South Locust Avenue, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
