Dorothy Norma (Hall) Baker Obituary (1927

Dorothy Norma "Hall" Baker passed away Sunday Morning, June 25, 2017 at her home in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born on April 11, 1927 in Chicago, IL and was slightly older than her twin brother, Donald. She was the daughter of Elias John Edward Hall and Iona Alvesta McNeill. Dorothy grew up in Junction City, Geary, Kansas and graduated from Junction City High School in May 1945. She graduated from St. Luke's, School of Nursing, Chicago on October 8, 1949. Dorothy was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve on November 8, 1950 and discharged on February 18, 1952. Dorothy worked at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA; Keller Army Community Hospital, US Military Academy, West Point, NY; Orem Community Hospital, Orem, Utah, just to name a few. During her nursing career she assisted in the delivery and care of numerous babies ensuring that they had a fighting chance to live and grow. Dorothy loved to travel, and lived in various locations around the world. In 1992 she moved to Utah where she later retired from Orem Community Hospital. Dorothy was an active member of the Springville Presbyterian Church. Dorothy married the love of her life Louis Carnahan Baker on August 2, 1952 in Manhattan, Riley, Kansas. She later married Floyd Isaac Spier in Omaha, Nebraska, which ended in divorce. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Louis, sons John and Danny, daughter Susan Ann, father Elias John Edward Hall, twin brother Donald Norman Hall, mother Iona Alvesta McNeill, and several relatives, friends and pets. Dorothy loved her pets especially her beloved cats. She is survived by several nieces and nephews on the Hall and Baker families, and her two dear friends Denise Taylor and Michael Minch. Carney, her beloved husband, died of ALS, (Lou Gehrig's Disease). In lieu of flowers, it was Dorothy's wish that individuals make a donation to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Foundation. Dorothy was buried beside her twin brother at Highland Cemetery, Junction City, Kansas on Monday, July 3, 2017. A celebration of life service will be held at the Springville Presbyterian Church (245 South 200 East) in Springville, Utah at 1:00 pm, July 30, 2017. Carney, her beloved husband, died of ALS, (Lou Gehrig's Disease). In lieu of flowers, it was Dorothy's wish that individuals make a donation to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Foundation.
