Duane Farr Atkinson, 72, of Pleasant Grove passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He was born January 7, 1942 in Park City to Thelbert and Mercelle Farr Atkinson. He married his sweetheart Judy Kirk on July 10, 1964 in the Manti LDS Temple and recently celebrated 50 wonderful years together.\n\nDuane grew up in Pleasant Grove and attended schools there, graduating from PG High in 1960. He joined the Utah National Guard and served an LDS mission to the Western States. He graduated from BYU and earned his DDS from University of Missouri. He practiced dentistry in Pleasant Grove for 34 years and developed relationships and love for the patients he served.\n\nDuane was a real craftsman with wood. He built a 14 foot functioning waterwheel, mill, and many items in the family home.\n\nDuane was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including a mission to South Africa with his eternal companion. He especially loved the youth of the Church and was an avid scouter. He enjoyed the outdoors and had many high adventures.\n\nHe is survived by his wife Judy; six children: Chad (Diane) Atkinson; Cory (Kirsten) Atkinson; Cody (Nell) Atkinson; Cabe (Jana) Atkinson; Caytee (Joseph) Mattson; Colby (Becca) Atkinson; 22 grandchildren; brother: Arlen (Pat) Atkinson and sister: Jana (Eric) VanBrakel.\n\nFuneral services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Grove Creek Stake Center, 1160 North 700 East, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewing Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the Stake Center and again on Saturday from 9:30-10:45 am prior to services. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 72.
