In Loving Memory of Giuliana Maria Del Carlo Maddox

Giuliana Maria Del Carlo Maddox, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she cherished above everything.

Born on January 25, 1942, in Lucca, Italy, to Gino and Flora Del Carlo, Giuliana was the second of their children. From the beginning, family was at the center of her heart—a love she carried throughout her life, including for her dear brother, Giorgio, who preceded her in death.

On February 15, 1958, Giuliana married the love of her life, Charles Lee Maddox, at midnight by candlelight in the Church of Saint Tommaso in Lucca, Italy. They were later sealed together for eternity with their children on March 27,1969 in the Oakland California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, Giuliana and Charles, built a home rooted in devotion, laughter, and steady partnership, remaining faithfully by one another’s side until his passing on March 8, 2019.

Giuliana carried herself with confidence and grace, and she had a rare gift for making people feel truly seen, loved, and welcome. She treated everyone the same—always with kindness and love. She was extraordinary in the quiet, powerful ways that matter most. Whatever she set her mind to do, she mastered. She was an extraordinary self-taught seamstress. She learned how to craft amazing meals that brought family and friends together and made everyone feel loved. Giuliana loved working in her yard—growing fruits, vegetables, roses, and award-winning dahlias brought her immense joy.

Her greatest joy was her family. She loved having her family close and created a home where love was not only spoken, but unconditionally lived through shared traditions, laughter, and unhurried time together. Making jam, cooking pasta, sewing Christmas jammies, and hosting pancake and cookie nights became cherished traditions that gathered generations and helped keep her family close.

Giuliana is survived by her seven children: Diana (Gary) Otterstrom, Linda (Ben) Reber, Richard (Michelle) Maddox, Steven Maddox, Debra (Damon) Hulsey, Michael (Natalie) Maddox, and Tricia Williamson. She was a devoted grandmother to 38 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 44 great-grandchildren—each one held a special place in her heart. She knew each of them by name and delighted in sharing their stories with anyone who would listen.

Giuliana carried a childlike sense of wonder, a love of laughter and song, and a spirit that chose goodness. She held no grudges, spoke ill of no one, and placed others before herself, giving freely of her time, her talents, and her whole heart. She expressed love in the most beautiful ways: through flowers, through food, through her words, and through countless quiet acts of kindness and service that became her signature and trademark.

She cherished being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, which was the foundation of who she was. She bore steady and unwavering testimony of His divinity until her final breath—a guiding light to her family and to all who knew and loved her.

Giuliana was a steady presence, a source of strength to everyone around her, a beacon of light and truth, and a well of unconditional love. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
