Gloria Barnes

Pleasant Grove, Utah

WATCH LIVE FUNERAL STREAM HERE (11:00 AM MST)

Gloria Mae Guse Barnes (Kaiser) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She peacefully slipped through the veil to what we're sure was a happy "welcome home" party on February 1, 2022 at age 96.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Fred and Annette Guse in another, simpler era. After graduating from high school and working for a year and a half, she began attending Milton College in Milton, Wisconsin. One of her friends talked the college president into inviting the V-12 boys from the University of Wisconsin to a St. Patrick's Day party in the spring of 1945, and one of the 50 young men that came was her future husband, Lynn Peterson Barnes. They were married in April, 1947 and sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti, UT LDS Temple later that year. Together, they had 4 children: Annette, Fred, Angus, and Shae.

Gloria loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. She equally enjoyed entertaining, and was an amazing hostess. She was an award-winning cook, having won at least two contests--one of which she won with a combination of canned chilis! She also enjoyed art, hiking and camping, and playing tennis with Lynn (often at the city park during Lynn's lunch hour). She loved games of all kinds, but especially Scrabble and card games--and was a stickler for the rules, regardless of the age of her competitors.

Gloria and Lynn had many adventures during their lifetime together, living in Alabama, Missouri, Idaho, Texas, Utah, and Russia. They were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time mission in Venezuela/Ecuador. She loved people wherever she went and enjoyed serving others.

Gloria and Lynn moved to Spring Gardens (an assisted living facility) in Lindon, Utah, in 2016, to make life a little easier on them in their "golden years." Lynn passed away in August, 2016. They had a kind and loving friend at Spring Gardens named Ron Kaiser. After Lynn passed away, Gloria and Ron came to enjoy one another's company and were married in May, 2017. Ron passed away in November 2021.

Gloria was the oldest living member of both hers and the Barnes families, and as such, had experienced her fair share of loss. In addition to her parents and sister Shirley (Shae), she looked forward to a joyous reunion on the other side with Lynn, her two boys (Fred and Angus), and many other friends and family members. We know she was thrilled to see them all. She is survived by her two daughters, Annette O'Bryant and Shae (Austin) Rippstein; daughter-in-law, Linda (Barnes) Whipple; 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Our family wishes to thank all the caring workers and friends at Spring Gardens who treated our mother like a queen during her 5 1/2 year stay with them.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lindon Central Stake Center, 56 East 600 North, Lindon, UT. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 -10:45 am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
