James "Stan" Stanford Marquiss Obituary (1932

James Stanford Marquiss (87) passed away on March 6, 2020, at his home in Lehi, Utah. He was born to Frank and Dorothy Marquiss on June 7, 1932, in The Dalles, Oregon, the second of five sons. He is preceded in death by his parents, three of his brothers, and his son, Steven James. He is survived by his wife, Billee Jean Marquiss, three of his children, Deborah (spouse: David), Daphne (spouse: Michael), and Jay (spouse: Kim). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Stan's parents moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1948, where Stan graduated from Anchorage High School in 1950. He attended one year at University of Alaska, Fairbanks, before beginning work as a carpenter at Elmendorf Air Force Base. Stan served in the National Guard for eight years. Eventually, Stan's outgoing personality led him to a career in sales, first for New York Life Insurance Company, then as a store manager for Montgomery Ward, and finally for Bowman Products until his retirement. Stan joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1959 and served in a variety of callings through the years. He served two missions with his wife, Billee Jean: Nauvoo, Illinois (2003-2004) and Washington DC Temple (2007-2008). Stan was always active and loved all sports, usually finding something he could participate in during every season: waterskiing, basketball, baseball, snow skiing. In Alaska, he fished as often as he could, sometimes even picking up his family after work so they could sleep in the car while he fished through the night, only to return to work the next day. When Stan found golf, he discovered a sport that he loved and could play year-round (after he moved to Utah); he competed in golf in the Senior Olympics for many years. Stan's greatest love, though, was his wife, Billee Jean, and his family; these he treasured. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 16, 2020, at 11:00 at the Lehi Utah East Stake building, 851 North, 1200 East, Lehi, UT 84043.
