Jay Gordon Macfarlane, 85, of Pleasant Grove passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at his home. Jay was the son of John Menzies and Nora Parker Macfarlane, born at the old Macfarlane farmhouse in Pleasant Grove on October 14, 1928. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1946 where he participated in debate. He attended Snow College for two years and later graduated from BYU with degree in Education. Jay fulfilled a mission to Samoa where he taught in the LDS Church School. He married Delna Evans on June 24, 1954 in Salt Lake LDS Temple. Two months after his marriage, Jay was called to serve in the occupation forces in Germany. After leaving the army, he obtained his Master Degree in Special Education from BYU and taught for 31 years in the Alpine School District. He enjoyed all his callings in the LDS Church where he served in many auxiliaries and as Bishop. With Delna, he served missions to Texas and California. He had a calm quiet manner and enjoyed telling jokes and participating in amateur theater. He believed in community service and spent over 45 years in the Pleasant Grove Lions Club, serving as President on two occasions.\n\nHe is survived by his wife Delna of Pleasant Grove; Gary Macfarlane, Idaho; Lynette Oliphant, California; Jaylene Macfarlane, Utah and Carol Macfarlane, Utah; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and his brother, Robert Macfarlane, New Mexico.\n\nFuneral services will be held Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Timpanogos Sixth Ward Chapel, 315 East 500 North, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services.
