Johan Henrich Sehlmeier, later John Henry Sehlmeier was born in Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands on December 9, 1930. His parents were Johan Frederik Sehlmeier and Antonia Dijkgraaf Sehlmeier.\n\nJohn was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn McAllister Sehlmeier, his parents, and his sister Johanna (Ann). He is survived by his sister Antonia (Toni), brother Adriaan, children James (Linda) Sehlmeier, Sherry (Tim) Du Moulin, Kelly (Hyrum) Palmer and Toni (Jeff) Merrell. He leaves a legacy of 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. John served in the U.S. Army in Korea, graduated from the University of Utah in Physics and worked as an Electronics Engineer, mostly in the defense industry.\n\nHe married his love, Marilyn McAllister on December 22, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and shared almost 53 years of marriage with her, raising one son and three daughters.\n\nJohn was a prolific reader, especially of Science Fiction. He wrote several books, started several businesses, and was involved in temple work, genealogy name indexing, gardening, gold mining, and investing. He had a wide variety of unusual pets and collected gemstones, seashells and oriental rugs.\n\nDad's trademark was that he would begin a conversation with anyone, anytime, anyplace about anything. All who knew him know that he was a gentle man of honor and integrity, a true gentleman, and a friend in need. He will be sorely missed.\n\nFuneral services will be held Friday, November, 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS church located at 700 East 500 North, Pleasant Grove, Utah, with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
