Joyce Chryst Johnson Backlund passed away on May 29, 2016. She was born November 22, 1926 in Bingham, Utah to Ralph V. and Ann William Chryst.\n\nOn October 17, 1947 she married Richard Elden Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to California where she lived for twenty years. After his death in 1963 she became a nurse's assistant to help support her five young children.\n\nJoyce moved back to Utah in 1974 and on September 3, 1976 she married Carl LeRoy Backlund in Pleasant Grove. They served a mission together for the LDS church in the North Carolina Raleigh mission. He passed away on August 31, 1984. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.\n\nJoyce is survived by four of her children; Sherry Lutes (LeRoy), Renee Pack (Glen), Kevin Johnson (Marilyn), and Deron Johnson (Angie). She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Vernon Elden Johnson (Marilyn) and one grandson, Jason Lutes. She leaves posterity of 27 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren.\n\nFuneral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt Mahogany Stake Center, 1548 North 900 West, Pleasant Grove where a visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
