Joyce Clark Walker passed away in her sleep on Saturday evening, August 1, 2020, at the age of 95. She was born April 17, 1925, in the original American Fork Hospital (51 East Main-now city office building) to Hyrum Winfield and Sarah Shipley Clark. She was the second of five children: Carol, Joyce, Hoover, Janice, and Roland. Mom had deep roots in Pleasant Grove. Her great-grandfather, George Sheffer Clark, was the leader of the settlers who came to the area under the direction of President Brigham Young, and he named Pleasant Grove. She lived in and attended schools in Pleasant Grove, graduating from high school in 1942. Service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began for Mom when she served a mission with her parents and older sister, Carol, in San Jose, California. She was three at the time, and her Mother often told her that they met a lot of people because of her. Mom served in the Church in many capacities throughout her life, including as a Relief Society President, always a visiting teacher, and serving in the Young Women, and Primary auxiliaries. She served for nine years as the Junior Sunday School Coordinator, and she loved that so much, she often quipped that the only way they could release her was to discontinue the calling-which was exactly what happened! She and Dad served as Family History Missionaries in the Roanoke, Virginia Mission. Until she could no longer safely walk from the parking lot into the Mt Timpanogos Temple, she did two temple sessions every Tuesday morning (starting at 5:00 a.m.) for years and years. The temple workers would call her "the Walker with the walker." After World War II, Mom married her sweetheart, Lee Gordon Walker, on May 17, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad graduated from BYU in 1949, and he began his career as a teacher. They had five children, and except for two years in Fillmore, lived in Pleasant Grove until 2004 when they sold the family home to a niece, and moved to American Fork. Mom is loved by everyone who knows her, and is known for her quick wit, her devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ, her example of love and acceptance of others, her love of family, her love of service, her creativity, her sewing/quilting skills, and her sense of humor. She was a real Mother and an out of control Grandma. She will also be remembered by the many she "adopted" and included as members of her family. Her home, the "Walker Bed & Breakfast" was always open to any of our friends who were visiting from out of town. She will be greatly missed, but we know she is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with family and friends who have graduated before her. Mom is survived by her five children: Lee (Mimi) Walker, Sandy; Janice (Paul) Legler, Kaysville; Ellen (Roger) Cornell, American Fork; Jolynne (Curtis) Walker, Layton; and Marla (Dale) Thompson, Grand Junction, CO; Roland Clark (brother); and Carol Anderegg (sister). She has sixteen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Mom is preceded in death by her eternal companion, Gordon; her parents, her brother, Hoover, her sister, Janice, and her grandson, Beau Cornell. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private family service will be held. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.

10 Memories preserved

I will never forget how kind you were to me when I came to visit. The stories of your family and the bear incident for the hungry caravan of pioneers and one shot left. You will always be in my heart. - Wendy Weiner

My sweet friend Joyce Walker could bring a smile to my face like no other! I love her and will miss our visits and her amazing 'juice' and movies, her wonderful wit, her stories of her children and grandchildren (She is so proud of all of her posterity), and her love and caring friendship! Till we meet again my friend, I will miss you and will always LOVE YOU! - Teri Wharff

Joyce served with me as my secretary when I was called as Relief Society President in the Timpanogos15th Ward, Pleasant Grove, Utah. I was quite young but this woman taught me so much about serving others. I grew to love and respect her so very much. She had such a loving way of teaching without making you feel inadequate. - Sharleen Allen

Joyce was so fun and had such a great sense of humor. She was positive in everything she said and a spiritual giant in my eyes. She loved her family and knew where they all lived & what they were doing and was very proud of them all Her movie nights for her friends in the condos were a big hit and they all looked forward to them weekly. She especially took care of her friend and neighbor Evan. She always made the best of everything and even when she moved into the Charleston, she accepted it, and went to scripture study and church & made the most of it while staying happy and making new friends. I will miss our visits and her friendship, but I know she's extremely happy now and having a great reunion with family, friends & her sweeth husband. - Jon & Diane Welch

A 'Angel' gesture was posted - She was Always kind

Joyce always had a smile. Her comments were insightful laced with humor. No doubt her happiness continues to spread. - Velma Lisa

Joyce was always so fun to be around and had such a great sense of humor. She was always so positive and happy to be around. Her house was the place to be once a week for a movie for all of her condo friends, Including Evan who she took great care of. She was a great example and knew the scriptures inside and out. She also had many interesting stories from the past that she told and were fun to listen to. She loved her family and talked about them with pride. When moving to the Charleston, she made the best of it and told me that this was the place she needed to be. I'll miss Joyce and her big smile she always greeted you with. It makes me happy to know that she was met on the other side by many friends, family and her sweet husband. Show - Jon & Diane Welch

My dear, dear friend, Joyce Walker, could bring a smile to my face like no other! I love her so much and will miss our visits, drinking her juice, listening to stories of her family (she is so proud of her posterity!), watching movies and laughing with her. I told her we were kindred spirits and probably knew each other before we came here. I am smiling through the tears at the glorious reunions she is having with her sweet Gordon and her family and friends who have passed. Till we meet again my sweet friend I Love and Miss you! - Teri Wharff

Joyce was my dear next "house" neighbor for 6 years. She was so kind and generous to me. My favorite time with Joyce was starting the " Come Follow Me" program for the New Testament. She was so spirituality insightful and I learned so much from her. I loved sharing my homemade soup with her. I miss her. - Joan Goulding

I loved talking with Joyce before church started each Sunday. She had such a quick wit and always something kind to say. I loved her smile and the little sparkle in her eye. How I will miss sweet Joyce. She always made me smile. I am glad she doesn't have to use her walker anymore and I hope she and her husband are enjoying a sweet reunion together. Dear Joyce, I will truly miss you. - Lori Sume
