Juanita Carol Hood Blackhurst

–

Pleasant Grove, Utah

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Juanita Carol Hood Blackhurst returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday June 21, 2015. She was surrounded by her family as she passed peacefully and was released from her pain. Carol was born February 17,1943 to Howard Thomas Hood Sr. and Ethel Imogene Hood Chomor in Ft Smith, Arkansas and was a joy to her family immediately. She lived with her mother's family for the first 3 years of her life while her father was stationed in Germany during World War II. Her grandparents and aunts were smitten instantly and she always felt so lucky to be loved by so many. Her family moved to California after her "daddy" returned from the war and she was later joined by a sister and a brother. As a young girl, she was introduced to the Gospel by her Aunt Madge. Carol was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a teenager along with her mother and sister. She lived in California until she decided to attend BYU in the fall of 1961 where she would meet her eternal companion, Larry Paul Blackhurst. Their courtship was quick and Larry knew this was the woman he wanted to spend eternity with. Larry and Carol were married and sealed on July 5, 1963 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was born to be a mother and was blessed with 7 children that were the joy of her life. Her entire existence was devoted to her husband and her children's needs. She was later thrilled to become a grandmother of 22 and a great grandmother of 1. Carol had many friends and was endeared by all who recognized her pure heart. As a loyal fan of Elvis, she showed all how to have fun and laugh through life. She is remembered by all who knew her as the definition of a selfless and compassionate person. Carol developed a special love and kindness for anyone less fortunate and for all animals. She was blessed to serve in many different positions in the Church and touched many hearts with her sincerity and Christ-like attributes. She will be missed by many and her family is determined to try to live a life full of the teachings and memories of their mother.

She is survived by her loving husband Larry, and her 7 children: Aaron & Susi, Brook & Val, Chad & Pam, Chris & Sara, Angela Fenton, Heather & Darren Lloyd, Lafe & Jocelyn; 22 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; her mother Imogene Chomor and sister Brenda (James) Peters. She is preceded in death by her father Howard "Brownie" Hood Sr., brother Howard Hood Jr. and step-father Arthur Chomor.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 at 11:00 am in the North Field Stake Center, 105 West 1800 North, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.
