Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and daughter, Julie Hunter Ferry, passed away on June 21, 2022, at the age of 51, after succumbing to injuries sustained from a falling rock while hiking.
Julie was born to Ross and Peggy Hunter in Salt Lake City, UT on April 28, 1971. She was the 3rd of 10 children. As a child she was active, curious, creative, and rambunctious (nicknamed Julie tornado). She enjoyed dance, piano, gymnastics, playing with friends in the neighborhood, and riding bikes with siblings to catch snakes at Utah lake. She always looked forward to family vacations to California to visit grandparents, the beach, and Disneyland. Her love of music began as a youth as she learned to play the violin.
She attended Greenwood Elementary, American Fork Junior High, and American Fork High school. She excelled in everything she did in her schooling and was well loved by all her teachers. One of her favorite activities in High School was being a member of the American Fork High School color guard, winter guard, and serving as flag captain. The song "You'll Never Walk Alone" always brought tears to her eyes. She graduated with the class of 1988 with honors.
While attending Brigham Young University, she and a good friend backpacked through Europe staying in youth hostels. It was also at BYU where Julie and Chet met. He remembers seeing a beautiful girl at church with long dark hair in a French braid down her back. After their second date, Chet told his college roommates that he was going to marry Julie if he could catch her. Chet had the wisdom not to disclose this to Julie. He strategically moved in slowly, calculating his next move. He didn't want to scare her away. Chet was crazy about Julie from first sight and will remain so forever. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 14, 1992. From that time on, Saturday date night was a priority throughout their marriage.
Julie was a committed disciple of Jesus Christ and spent most of her time serving others. She served quietly, wanting no recognition. Julie was compassionate and kind. She served as a Relief Society president, Young Women's president, primary chorister, ward chorister, primary teacher, and in many other capacities. She loved music and singing in the church choir. She was faithful in her temple attendance, scripture study, and prayers. Julie set an example for her husband, children and all around her. She shared her love of the gospel and her testimony and demonstrated her devotion to her Savior through her daily living of gospel principles. Her greatest desire was to be a mother, gladly welcoming six wonderful children into their home: William, Clarissa, Rachael, Ethan, Joshua, and Leah. She loved her family with all her heart and taught her children many valuable life lessons, including quilting, crocheting, cooking, sewing, and the value of education. Most important, she taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ.
She had many talents, such as cake decorating, dipping chocolates with her sister and daughters. She took pride in gardening and keeping her yard beautiful with flowers. Julie's father was proud of her for being a do-it-your-self woman; if something needed to be fixed, she would learn, take classes, and find a way to fix it. She learned how to change the oil in a car, install and fix sprinklers and faucets. She learned framing, ductwork, electrical wiring, hanging sheetrock, painting and everything needed to build and finish a room. She always took the initiative. She loved reading books and has a large library. One of her goals was to earn her bachelor's degree, accomplishing this April 2021 from Brigham Young University. Her latest adventure was learning to paint with Bob Ross, finishing several beautiful paintings.
One of her greatest passions was exercising. She swam, biked, walked, ran, hiked, lifted weights, kick-boxed, and loved to include those around her in these activities. Some of her accomplishments include, marathons, hiking rim to rim in the Grand Canyon, doing a 60-mile bike race with her daughter, a century 100-mile bike race, sprint triathlons and recently she started hiking with her son. She frequently included her friends, neighbors, kids, brothers, sisters, father, and husband in these activities. Every year on the 4th of July she organized and coerced her whole extended family into running The Hunter Family 5k fun run, complete with t-shirts, prizes, trophies, and breakfast. She always said she exercised to be healthy, but mostly to strengthen relationships.
Julie is survived by her husband Chet Ferry, 6 children: William, Clarissa, Rachael, Ethan, Joshua, and Leah; her parents Ross and Peggy Hunter; 7 siblings: Ben, Bonnie, Ilene, Jesse, Betsy, Marie, and Joy.
Julie was a woman of action and a true friend who helped lift others. To know Julie was to be loved and served. Above all, she was a beloved daughter of God and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ who will claim her covenant blessings.
