Karie Lynn Burkhardt Obituary (1956 - 2016)

Karie Lynn Burkhardt, our beautiful wife, mother, gaga, sister, and daughter, passed away on April 12, 2016, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer at the young age of 59. Karie was born in Bakersfield, CA, on December 9, 1956. She was the second of three children of Gayle and Doyle Kinghorn, with four more brothers and sisters from Lynn and Doyle Kinghorn. She grew up in Eugene, OR, where she graduated from high school. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Idaho Falls, ID where she graduated from her dad's beauty school. She married Michael Watts and they settled in Montana to begin their family. They had three children, Derek, Kyle, and Blakley. She later married Kent Burkhardt and they settled in Florida where they finished raising their children. After ten wonderful years in Florida, they moved to Utah, where she was near her family and extended family. Karie's deepest passion was her family, and especially each of her beloved grandchildren. She cherished a unique bond with each one. She had a rare ability to make each family member know how much she cared for and truly loved them. She loved being in the sun, whether at the pool, the beach, or outside playing with her grandbabies. She always looked forward to vacationing, whether in Mexico with her siblings, cruising by catamaran, or scuba diving with Kent all around the Caribbean. She was talented at cooking, planting flowers in her garden, decorating her home, finding and doing projects, and brightening each day with her goofiness, joy, and zest for life. Many knew her and loved her as more than their talented hairdresser, but also as their outgoing, fun-loving friend for life. She had an amazing talent to touch everyone, making each one feel important and truly loved. She will be deeply missed by all those that know and love her. Karie is survived by her husband Kent, her children Catherine, Derek (Tracie), Kyle, Blakley (Camden), grandchildren Oakley, Gavin, MaKinlee, Kyle, and Lexie, and soon to be born Brooks, parents Gayle and Bob Sims, Lynn and Doug Frandsen, brothers Craig Kinghorn, Michael Kinghorn, Joshua Kinghorn, sisters Kim LePrey, Andrea Jeppeson. She was preceded in death by her father Doyle Kinghorn, and brother Mark Kinghorn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jacobs Ranch Second Ward Chapel 267 W. Weatherby Dr. Saratoga Springs, Utah, with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Family and friends may also attend a viewing Monday evening April 18, 2016 from 6 - 8 p.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
