Kendall Beveridge Obituary (2022) - Pleasant Grove, Utah

WATCH LIVE FUNERAL STREAM HERE (11:00 AM MDT) After a 9-year battle with cancer, Ken passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of July 6, 2022. Ken was the 4th of 5 children, born in American Fork Hospital. He grew up in Manila on Canyon Road and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1975. He attended Utah State University for 1 year. He then chose to serve a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was called to the Helsinki, Finland mission. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business and a minor in Geography. He held 3 jobs while obtaining his degree from BYU as he felt education was important while striving to provide for his family. He made sure that each of his children had the opportunity to follow their dreams and obtain an education as well. He worked hard to help provide this opportunity for them. He worked as a welder for Larson's Ornamental Iron and Patch's Majestic Metals. He was a meat cutter at Albertson's for over 10 years. In 1989, Ken went to work for Chevron Oil Refinery where he retired after a successful career of over 30 years and made several lifelong friends. Ken always had facial hair but decided to shave it one day, earning him the nickname "Smooth" at work. The guys at work came up with a saying and even had stickers made with "WWSD - What Would Smooth Do". In addition to working full-time he ran the farm: pruning trees, picking fruit, making apple cider (Wish's Squishes), hauling hay, irrigating, feeding horses, working on the tractor, and caring for the animals. Ken was a perfectionist in everything he did. He could fix anything, drive anything, and park anything anywhere. He also had an artistic side. He enjoyed drawing and photography. He would take pictures of things he saw and then build them the way he wanted, adjusting the designs and adding his own features. Growing up he played baseball, basketball, football, wrestling, and later played in an adult softball league. Ken loved hunting, fishing, cycling, traveling, camping, 4-wheeling, and hiking; but was most passionate about horses. He lamented the fact that he wasn't born earlier so he could be a cowboy. As a young boy his neighbor said he could ride their horse, Rusty, if he had his own saddle. Ken always said that horse saved his life. When his dad saw he was serious he purchased Wink and Hoe, his first horses. They were yearlings and Ken learned to break them himself. This led him to work as a farrier, shoeing horses for others. His other horses included April, Red, Diamond Stitches, Sage, and Bobbie. He also had many dogs: Tippy, Duchess, Socks, Belle, Ace, Doll, Holly, Abbie, and Sadie. While attending BYU Ken met Nancy Elaine Wolff and they were married in the Oakland, CA Temple on October 3, 1980. The following year they had fraternal twins, Katherine and Cameron, followed 4 years later by a daughter, Rachel. All three children loved working the farm with their dad and have countless stories as he shared his hobbies with them. Ken and Nancy raised their children in Orem, Highland, and currently live in Pleasant Grove. Their daughter Katie lives close-by in American Fork; Cam and his family are currently stationed in Indiana and visit their farm in Montana during the summer and winter breaks; Rachel and her husband live in Pleasant Grove. Ken was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. Even as his health declined, he had a continual desire to serve. He enjoyed doing family history work specifically researching relatives and their stories. Then, on Memorial Day, he would take his family to decorate their grave sites. Ken was preceded in death by his parents LaMar (Wish) and LaTella; Irene Simons (sister); Jenny Simons (niece), Russ Simons and Wayne Larson (nephews). He is survived by his wife Nancy of 41 years and children: Katherine, Cameron (Hailey), Rachel (Jon) Truscott, grandchildren: Grace Truscott; Jesse, Carolina, Abraham, and Angus Beveridge. He is also survived by his sisters Elaine (Val) Larson, Joyce (Stan) Boren, Donna (Sherm) Bond, and brother-in-law Mike Simons. An evening viewing will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Mt. Mahogany Fifth Ward Chapel, 1541 North 1300 West, Pleasant Grove where family and friends may attend a viewing from 10:00 - 10:45 am prior to the services.
