Kent Ray Allen Obituary (1952 - 2021)

WATCH LIVE FUNERAL STREAM HERE ( 11:00 AM MST ) Kent Ray Allen, age 69, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 7th, following a recent diagnosis of multiple myeloma cancer. He was born on January 2, 1952 to Elwood and Mildred Allen, as the youngest of three children. He grew up in a humble home in downtown Pleasant Grove, working in the family garden, helping at his father's grocery store and running around the neighborhood with his friends. Kent began his love affair with the PG Vikings while serving as the senior class president. He made lifelong friends and memories in the halls of the high school. Kent served an LDS Mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina where he fell in love with the people and the gospel. He went on to graduate from BYU. He married his sweetheart, Pamela Beck, on August 18, 1976 in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. They built a home together in Pleasant Grove and started a family, ultimately having four children. He spent many years working at Hercules, and went on to be the purchasing manager for Orem City, where he spent the last 27 years until his retirement. Kent was the epitome of a family man. He spent countless summers coaching baseball and leading the local boy scout troop as the scoutmaster. He could always be found in the first few rows of each of his kids' performances with his arms folded and a proud look on his face. He also served in many capacities in his church, including serving for years as executive secretary in his home ward and in two bishoprics at BYU. He was always the happiest when he was serving with the youth. When he came close to retirement, Kent was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a writer. He became the voice of Viking sports for the PG Review and the Deseret News. You could count on seeing him on the sidelines of each football game, cheering on his Vikings! Kent is survived by his wife, Pamela Beck Allen, and his four children, Melissa (Jamie) Anderson, Michael (Karen) Allen, Travis (Charles) Allen-Walters, and Chase (Brit) Allen, and ten beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Paul (Judy) Allen and his sister Janice (Kay) Thorne. We offer our sincere gratitude to all the nurses and doctors who served our dad over the past few weeks. We are also forever grateful for the many friends and family who have reached out in love to our family. Our dad will be missed greatly. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Battle Creek Eighth Ward Chapel, 1250 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend a viewings Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and Thursday morning from 9:30 - 10:45 am prior to the funeral services.
