Lester Ray "Shorty" Freeman, 87, of Pleasant Grove passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015. Ray was born September 8, 1927 in Lonetree, Wyoming to Isaac Reed and Mary Ivy Maupin Freeman. He married Neva Shumway on September 7, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The family moved to Pleasant Grove when Ray was a child and he graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He worked for many years at Geneva in the open hearth as a brick layer. Ray was a devoted scout leader and served as Scout Master for 27 years and earned his Wood Badge and was awarded the Silver Beaver. He was later honored for the many Eagle Scouts he mentored over the years.\n\nHe is survived by his sons: John (Anita) Freeman and Sam (Jolene) Freeman; grandchildren: Shane (Erin), Justin (Elena), Brandon (Haley), Amanda, Heather (Steve) and Colton and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva and daughter, Mary.\n\nFuneral services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Mt Mahogany Stake Center, 1548 North 900 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends and family may attend a viewing Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services.
