Arlene Sorenson

Mary Arlene Guymon Sorenson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 90.

Arlene was born on March 9, 1936, in Huntington, Utah. Her family moved to Orem when she was four, where she grew up on a fruit farm in a lively family of nine children.

Arlene married the love of her life, Joseph Glade Sorenson, on September 16, 1955. Together they worked hard, laughed hard, and built a loving home and family. Their house in Pleasant Grove was a gathering place for family and friends for more than 65 years. Glade passed away in February 2020.

Arlene was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. Her quiet service, strong testimony, and caring nature touched many people over the years.

She channeled her love of books and worked as a reading tutor for both children and adults and then spent 14 years as a librarian at Cherry Hill Elementary School.

Arlene lived a creative life. As a young woman she acted in plays, competed in school dramatic readings, and played the accordion. She also loved to dance tap, ballet, and ballroom. She was an accomplished seamstress, and her children fondly remember having the absolute best Halloween costumes. Later in life, she discovered a love for quilting and oil painting.

Arlene was a cancer survivor. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Huntsman Cancer Center for taking such good care of her for 23 years.

Arlene is survived by her children: Bryan Sorenson and wife Missy; Bradley Sorenson; Sherene Sorenson McClellan and husband John McClellan; and Deanna Sorenson. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters: Joan Solomen Gray, Hazel Greenland Hauck, and sister/niece Maxene Gonzolas, as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Funeral services will be held on May 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Timpanogos 3rd Ward; 425 East 500 North, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Friends and Family may attend a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 AM prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
