Mark Jay Motsinger passed away on June 4, 2025, in the comfort of his childhood home in American Fork, Utah, after facing complications from a brain tumor. He was 63 years old.
Mark was born on July 21, 1961, in Fort Ord, California, to Otis and Elizabeth May Motsinger. The youngest of five brothers—Steven, David, Charles, and John—Mark grew up in American Fork and graduated from American Fork High School in 1979.
In 1979, Mark married Jill Newby, and together they welcomed their son, Joshua. Mark and Jill later divorced, and he did not remarry.
In recent years, Mark and his son Josh developed a close and special bond, especially over the last five years. They spent time together each week running errands, going out to lunch, and simply enjoying each other’s company. One of their favorite pastimes was bowling—despite being blind, Mark often managed to win, much to everyone’s amazement and amusement. Their time together became a cherished routine that brought both of them joy, laughter, and connection.
A hardworking man, Mark spent many years in construction, beginning as a drywall hanger and later transitioning into stucco and roofing. He retired in 2022 after losing his vision due to his illness.
Mark lived a full and active life. He had a talent for tennis and softball, enjoying countless games with friends. He loved the outdoors—especially hunting and fishing—and had a fondness for old Westerns, cartoons, and regular phone or FaceTime calls with family. Known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, he was a beloved uncle who never missed a chance to tease his favorite nieces and nephews.
Mark became a proud grandfather in 1999 when his son Josh and daughter-in-law Angie welcomed Skyler. He was later blessed with two more grandchildren, Hunter (2003) and Katie (2009), whom he cherished deeply. He also warmly welcomed Skyler’s wife, Shaylee, into the family and was overjoyed to know he would soon become a great-grandfather to baby Jessie, expected in August.
Mark’s constant companion in recent years was his beloved Yorkie, Rosie. The two were inseparable, often seen walking through the neighborhood together, making friends wherever they went.
Mark will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and one-of-a-kind personality. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who supported Mark over the past few years. Your kindness—bringing meals and treats, offering companionship, and especially taking him to his cherished weekly breakfasts—meant the world to him. Your generosity and care brought comfort and joy during a difficult time and will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 9:00 - 10:30 am in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 am in the American Fork City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
