Myles Owen Harris Obituary (1921

Myles Owen Harris passed away on February 21, 2015. He was born in Lindon, Utah, on September 8, 1921, to Leonard Owen and Viola Gillman Harris. He grew up on the family farm in Lindon and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where he played basketball and ran track. He attended Utah State for one year prior to marrying his high school sweetheart, Thelda Gardiner, on December 4, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their first child was born in 1943 and shortly thereafter Myles was drafted and served in the Pacific with the United States Navy during World War II. Following the war they moved to Orem where he has lived for 64 years. Myles worked at Geneva Steel for 37 years prior to his retirement. He and his wife were avid BYU fans. Myles was preceded in death by his wife Thelda whom he had been married to for 70 years at the time of her death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Calvin, Arvil, and Doyle Harris and sisters, Wanda (Harris) Kirkwood and Melba (Harris) Harker. He is survived by his eight children: Jay (Marilyn) Harris, Terry Harris, Calvin (Pat) Harris, Steven Harris, Mark Harris, Julie (Ed) Burrup, Chris Harris, and Jana (Craig) Cottle. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the Aspen 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 1485 North 800 West, Orem, Utah. A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah, and at the chapel on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East.
