Myrna (Gammon) Gilbert Obituary (1942 - 2018)

Myrna Gammon Gilbert, 75, of Pleasant Grove passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at her home. Myrna was born August 25, 1942 in Vineyard, UT to Ray and Pauline Sumsion Gammon. Myrna, along with seven siblings, was raised on a dairy farm. Her strong foundation lead to qualities she carried throughout her life. She was a hard-worker who always looked for opportunities to serve others with kindness and love. After high school she attended Mary Kawakami's Beauty School where she graduated with her cosmetology license and used these skills to serve many (including maintaining her signature coiffure!). She then served a LDS mission in Belfast, Ireland from 1963-1964. After which she attended BYU and earned a degree in Elementary Education. She taught sixth grade at Lindon Elementary and Forbes Elementary. Students and teachers-alike remember her fondly as an influential educator, mentor, friend, prankster, and ball player. While teaching at Lindon Elementary, Myrna met Herb Gilbert who was currently serving as the Principal. Myrna and Herb were married in the Provo Utah LDS Temple in 1975. Together they had two children who gave her the opportunity to fulfill her life-long calling as a mother. Myrna has been a faithful member of the LDS church serving in many positions including an ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Myrna is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gilbert. She is survived by her children: Holli (Matt) Bingham and Heidi as well as step-children Margret Fields, Herb Jr. (Charlotte), Mike (Julie), Tony (Ruby), 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. At Myrna's request, there will be no formal funeral service. However, there will be a viewing held Tuesday evening, March 20, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 am in the west section of the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
