Pleasant Grove, Utah
On Thursday March 2, 2017 Penelope Sue "Penny" Weiss, our turbo, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend died after a valiant, six month battle with non-smoking lung cancer. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.
On December 16, 1949 Penelope Sue was born to Damon Barrett and Charlotte Lee Edwards in Oakland, California. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Penny served an honorable mission to Rome, Italy. After returning from her mission she married the love of her life, Richard Carlton Weiss. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple on March 21, 1975. Rick and Penny raised their family in Provo, Utah later moving to Pleasant Grove where they have lived for the past 24 years.
Penny worked hard her entire life. She shared her many talents with family and friends. She never missed an opportunity to serve, whether by making cinnamon rolls or quilts for others. She fulfilled all of her church callings with dedication and faith. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and was present for every birth, first day of school and countless other little and big moments for her grandkids in both Virginia and Utah. Her example of unconditional love for all people is a great legacy she has left for her family and friends.
Penny was a great cook and in 1992 was a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake Off with her black and white brownie recipe. In 2000 her Pillsbury brownie recipe was inducted into the Bake Off Hall of Fame.
She loved adventure, was always hiking or biking and even competed in triathlons until she discovered cross-fit. She loved her cross-fit family.
Penny loved her husband, children and grandchildren dearly and those that loved her will never be the same without her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Damon Barrett Edwards, Charlotte Lee Edwards, and her sister Candy (Val) Averett. Penny is survived by her husband Richard Weiss, her 4 children Amberlyn (Brent) Wood, Jessica (Jamie) Davis, Ryan (Michelle), Deric (Monica), 11 grandchildren and 6 siblings, Lottie (Gene-Deceased) Hart, Gwen (Blaine) Wickham, Barry (Rolayne) Edwards, Sandy (Steve) Richards, Melody (Steve) Perkins, Gaye (Steve)Hilliard.
