Ramona LaVerne (Fowers) Howard Obituary (1928 - 2021)

WATCH LIVE FUNERAL STREAM HERE (1:00 PM MDT) Ramona LaVerne Fowers Howard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died at the age of 92 in her Pleasant Grove, Utah home following an accident and subsequent illness surrounded by the love of her children and family. Born on November 20, 1928 in Driggs, Idaho to George and Wanona Barton Fowers. The second of six children, she learned early in her life the value of hard work. She did farm work her younger years, Managed a store and hotel in Driggs, Idaho for 25 years after high school, and ran a day care center in Idaho Falls, Idaho for 15 years. After retiring she spent as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren and family. She lived in San Diego, California and Driggs, Rexburg, Aberdeen, and Idaho Falls, Idaho and attended school in each while growing up. She attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho alongside her brother Bill (George William Fowers). Lived in Driggs and Idaho Falls, Idaho throughout her adult life and ultimately moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah with her beloved husband, Don in 2003, to be nearer to her treasured family. She remained in her dream home in Pleasant Grove for the rest of her life. On August 21, 1959, she married Don Edmund Howard in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were constant companions until his passing December 10, 2008. Together they served in many church callings and traveled many places while encountering many joys and challenges along the way. Always supporting, loving and helping each other and their families; often turning the hard or mundane into treasured moments. Ramona was a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her entire life. She served a mission as a young woman in the Northern States (Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska). Ramona served faithfully in many, many callings. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, and within the Young Women, Relief Society and Primary organizations. Ramona and Don worked together doing Spanish extraction for 13 years and also served as Stake Missionaries for 4 years. Among her most beloved callings were Genealogy Class Teacher, Cub Scout Den Leader, Young Mutual Improvement Association Secretary and Relief Society Visiting Teaching Supervisor. She loved to crochet and was a master of the art with agile and nimble fingers. Undoubtedly, she made thousands of afghans and other pieces during her lifetime. Genealogy work was a passion which began when she was 14 years old. At the time of her passing she had over 36,000 names in her family files on her computer. She has extracted over 330,000 names during recent years when she was less mobile but still vitally involved in the work. Ramona is survived by her 3 children: sons Robert [Mary] Howard of Pasco, Washington; William [Maria] Howard of Bettendorf, Iowa; and, daughter Rita Lee [Adrian] Parry of Provo, Utah. Her surviving grandchildren: Robert's Children -- Joseph Howard, Rhoana Howard, Daniel Howard, Brian [Court] Howard, Steven Howard and Alesha Howard. William's Children -- Jovonna [Charles] Adkins; Maria Melchor Howard, Zachary Howard, Samantha Howard, Alex Howard, Emily Howard, Michael Howard; Marin Howard, and 2 foster grandchildren. Rita's Children -- Benjamin [Skyelin] Parry, Michael [Shauna] Parry, Aaron [Ashley] Parry, Jacob [Yaret] Parry; Nathan Parry and Andrew Parry. Also, 17 great grandchildren and brother Robert [Candace] Fowers of Bountiful, Utah and sister Dixie [Paul] Reynolds of Queen Creek, Arizona and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, granddaughter Rebekah Lee Parry, two sisters and their spouses Dolores [Lawrence] Owen, Dorcus [Jim] McEwan, and her brother and sister-in-law George William [Hilda] Fowers. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Garden Sixth Ward Chapel, 905 North 500 West, Pleasant Grove, UT where family and friends may attend a viewing from 11:00 am - 12:45 pm prior to the services.
