Raymond Clements Obituary (2022) - Pleasant Grove, Utah

Clements, 82, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Janet, and family at his side on Friday, February 4th, 2022. Ray was born in Provo, Utah on September 15th, 1939 along with his twin brother Rex. Ray attended public schools in Provo and graduated from Provo High School. He joined the National Guard, went through basic training, and later attended BYU. He served an honorable full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the "Eastern States Mission"; mainly serving in New York state, where he was privileged to portray the Prophet Joseph Smith in the Hill Cumorah Pageant as part of his missionary service. Ray's interest and abilities in mechanical applications led him to his career as a field engineer. For over forty-two years Ray worked for NCR repairing mechanical cash registers. He finished his career and the industry had converted wholly to electronic cash registers, ATM's and other specialty equipment. Ray met the love of his life, Janet Pope of Arimo, Idaho, at a Halloween Dance at BYU in 1965, and they were married and sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on April 22nd, 1966. They quickly settled in Provo and established more permanent roots in the Provo/Orem area. Ray was always an active member of the Church and served in many callings, most notably as an Elder's Quorum President, in several bishoprics and as Bishop of the Lakeview 1st Ward, multiple times as a Stake High Councilor, High Priest Group Leader, as a Counselor and as an MTC Branch President, a Temple worker in the Provo and Mt Timpanogos temples, a full time mission with Janet to the people of Nigeria, Africa, and two Stake Missions for the Lakeview Stake in Orem. Ray was preceded in death by his father, George, his mother, Della, sister, Linda, and brother Ron Clements. He is survived by his twin brother Rex [Dorothy] Clements of Mapleton, Utah, his brother Allen [Patricia] Clements of Santa Clara, Utah along with his wife Janet Pope Clements and their eight sons: Gregory [Jillayne] Clements of Mona, Utah, Sidney [Gina] Clements of American Fork, Utah, Brenden [Amy] Clements of Spanish Fork, Utah, Calyn Clements of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Cameron [Sara] Clements of Orem, Utah, Ramon [Natalie] Clements of Blountstown, Florida, Spencer [Amy] Clements of Cedar Hills, Utah, Casey [Jaclyn] Clements of Nephi, Utah and one daughter: Janarae [David] Hanson of Eagle Mountain, Utah-- along with twenty-one grandsons, twenty-one granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren, and another one on the way. Ray had a very strong work ethic and always had several projects going to employ his considerable skills and make quality use of his time. He was not much of a talker, rather he was a doer! He regularly accomplished monumental tasks and jobs that earned him the respect and trust of those who associated with him. He maintained all family vehicles, excelled at plumbing work, all types of general home repair, and renovated and refreshed many apartments and homes through the course of his life. He and Janet performed numerous landscape changes to beautify their own and many of their children's neighborhoods. Despite his busy schedule, Ray always made time for others and did what he could to assist anyone in need. He and Janet particularly enjoyed projects with and for his family members. His legacy of service is synonymous with his memory. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Lakeview Stake Center, 450 West 1800 South, Orem, Utah where family and friends may also attend a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 am prior to the serves.
