Our loving father, grandfather, brother and son passed away Sunday May 31, 2015 at his Pleasant Grove home at the age of 55 after a courageous six month battle with stage four kidney cancer.\n\nRichard was born on December 13, 1959, in Bloemfontein, South Africa to Hendrik and Maria Oostveen. In June 1965, at the age of five, his parents moved him and his four older siblings to Salt Lake City, Utah to pursue the LDS faith; he had a great love for his religion.\n\nHe was recently able to achieve one of his lifelong goals to go through the LDS temple. In January of this year, he went through the Mount Timpanogos temple for the first time with his father and siblings by his side.\n\nRichard grew up in Utah County and attended Orem High School. After high school, he pursued the family business and became a Master Electrician. He had a passion and great skill for playing the game of billiards and frequently participated in pool tournaments.\n\nHe is survived by the love of his life, Gizmo. His father Hendrik Oostveen, three daughters, Angie Oostveen, Camille Oostveen, and Lindsey (Steven) Parker, one son, Jamie (Karen) Giles, two "adopted" children, Stephanie Dalton and Nathan Blasier. His four siblings Robert (Darlene) Oostveen, Alex (April) Oostveen, Ernie (Shanna) Oostveen, and Marian (Kevin) Fryer. Five grandsons: Zeigan Giles, Cody Schwartz, Kyson Shepherd, Jakoby Parker, Jyrnee Parker, and his "adopted" grandson Dawson. As well as many nieces, nephews, friends and many others whose lives he touched over the years.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Oostveen, his nephews Bradley Oostveen and Shaun Mikesell, and a grandson Kaiden Giles.\n\nFuneral services will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Grove Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing Thursday evening at the church from 6 - 8 P.M. and on Friday prior to services from 12 - 1:45 P.M.
