Robert N. Jensen

–

Pleasant Grove, Utah

Robert Nevelle Jensen Sr., “Bob”, passed away peacefully at his home on the Sixth of April 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Brigham City, Utah, on October 22, 1935 to Lafayette and Bertha Jensen, the second of their three children together. He had two older brothers and one older sister from his parents’ previous marriages. In his words and actions, Bob exhibited an unwavering testimony of the Atonement of our Savior and of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. This surety is the greatest gift he has left for all who knew him.

Bob attended and graduated from Box Elder High School where he participated in sports, drama, and band. Following high school, Bob attended Utah State University and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1958. In 1955, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Deem, in the Logan Temple. They lived in Brigham City for four years where the first two of their six children were born. During that time Bob worked for Thiokol, west of Brigham City. In 1960, Bob and Sharon relocated to Burbank, California where he took a position at the Los Angeles based engineering firm of Wheeler & Gray. He worked there as a consulting civil and structural engineer from 1960 until his retirement in 2003.

Bob was an avid and skilled tennis player. He liked athletics and enjoyed competing. All six of his children participated in athletics and have become lifelong sports enthusiasts. He also enjoyed golf and excelled in that sport as well.

Bob was an active and faithful lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served diligently in many church callings while in Burbank, including Young Mens President, Elders Quorum President, High Council Member, Bishopric Counselor, Bishop, and Stake Presidency Counselor. Bob and Sharon served an 18-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the Washington DC Temple in 2003 and 2004.

In 2004 they moved to Utah and built a home in Pleasant Grove. Bob and Sharon enjoyed serving as ordinance workers in the Mount Timpanogos Temple every Tuesday night for 15 years and would regularly attend other sessions together. They were stalwarts in temple and family history service. Treasured forever will be the many volumes of genealogical research he provided to each family member. Even his last church calling, preparing the printed program for Sunday service, was one he continued to do during his recent illness.

Spending time together as a family was a priority and vacations usually included camping, hiking, and fishing in the mountains or trips to Carpinteria Beach. As the family grew older, Bob spearheaded family reunions nearly every year. Gardening was one of Bob’s passions and he loved growing things that could be eaten by his family and given away to others. He had a personal creed for his life that he shared with his children, grandchildren, and many others. It included the importance of having a positive attitude and his slogan was “+ A . . . all the way.”

Bob is survived by his wife Sharon Jensen of Pleasant Grove, Utah, his six children, Debby (Allyn) Fresh, Bob Jr. (Teresa), Ron (Briggett), Brad, Linda (Jason) Oler and David (Ashley), his brother Delon (Sandy), 18 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
