Robert “Jay” Shumway Obituary (1930

Robert "Jay" Shumway, of Lindon, passed away Tuesday November 3, 2015 at the age of 85 the very same day he was born in 1930. He had been battling cancer for several years. Jay was born in Lindon, Utah to Melvin Shumway and Eunice Shoell Shumway. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High and lived in Lindon his entire life. He married Donna Clara Doyle on December 26, 1950. In April of 1951, he was drafted to the Korean War and became a Heavy Artillery Crewman to protect the front line men. He returned home in 1954. He went to school to become an electrician and was employed at Geneva Steel for 35 years until he retired. Jay's hobbies included camping and hunting. He and Donna enjoyed crafting bows and arrows for family and friends. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling to car shows in his '34 Ford pickup truck. He is survived by his children Ron (Kathy) Shumway, Kim (Shelly) Shumway, Kathy (Donald) Carter, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Eunice Shumway; his wife, Donna; his son, Neal Shumway; his brothers, Don M. Shumway, Elvin G. Shumway, Nyle B. Shumway; and his granddaughter, Amanda J. Shumway. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
