Scot Van Uitert Obituary (2022) - Pleasant Grove, Utah

WATCH LIVE STREAM HERE (12 NOON MDT) Scot Warren VanUitert, age 58 of Pleasant Grove, died peacefully in his home after a battle with cancer on August 15, 2022. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 26 years, Karen (Jones) VanUitert. They were married May 24, 1996, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Scot was born in Seattle, Washington on February 22, 1964, the son of Donald Dean and Patricia Ann Walker VanUitert. He was raised in Orem, Utah and was a graduate of Orem High School, class of 1982. He then entered the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country for a term of 6 years. His first job duties in the Air Force were loading ammunition and missiles on fighter planes as part of the famous 8th Fighter Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, where his responsibilities grew to teaching new recruits as an electronics technical instructor at Lowry Air Force Base in Aurora. Before he was honorably discharged, he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, been awarded the Air Force Good Conduct medal, and finished his enlistment at Hill Air Force base in Utah. Following his enlistment in the Air Force he worked most of his life in the high-tech field as an IT and software engineer for companies including WordPerfect, Novell, Control4 and Snap1. He was excited by his work and the problems he was able to solve. He loved to see them implemented in his own house as he brought home new technology to test by automating the house. In his personal life Scot was dedicated to his family and community which was centered around the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his calling as a primary teacher and brought his military experience to bear by having misbehaving children do push-ups. His methods earned him the affectionate nickname of "Sarge" which he discovered when those primary children were his students again after he was called to be an advisor for the young men's quorums. His incorporation of the Air Force values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all endeavors was impressed upon everyone he served and served with. He was a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos temple for seven years and in the Elder's Quorum Presidency multiple times where he had many opportunities for service. When he was called as the Stake Emergency Preparedness coordinator he focused on communications in emergencies and was able to utilize his military and technical training to become a licensed amateur radio operator with his call sign emblazoned on the window of his truck - KD7 CQN. There was nothing broken that Scot could not figure out how to fix. He could replace a car's alternator or engine, wire a house, debug computer code, fix a child's boo boo and calm angsty teenagers. He held to the maxim that "A saint is a sinner who keeps on trying" and encouraged all around him to follow the gospel of Jesus Christ. He preferred to be out of the spotlight, and let his works speak for themselves. He will forever be remembered and emulated by those who knew him. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts, filled with a lasting legacy of faith, family, and service. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen Van Uitert; his six children, Jessica (Jason) Gobble; Matthew (Chona) Van Uitert; Haley (Kyle) Nebeker; Erick Van Uitert; Alli (Jordan) Carlson; Elizabeth Van Uitert; 10 grandchildren, parents, Dean and Pat Van Uitert; in-laws, Rod and Donna Jones; brother, Tony (Cindy) Van Uitert; four sisters, Debbie (Tom) Adams; Marian (Paul) Curtis; Julie (Alan) Watson; Kari (Gavin) Pitts; and many nieces and nephews all of whom he loved deeply. He was preceded by his grandparents, Rodney and June Walker and Dirk and Mildred Van Uitert; niece, Melissa Van Uitert Dazley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 12:00 noon in the Grove Creek Stake Center, 730 East 1280 North, Pleasant Grove where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 am-11:45 am prior to funeral services.
