Stephen Scott Moss

–

Pleasant Grove, Utah

Stephen Scott Moss passed away on September 17, 2026 at his home in Lindon, Utah.

He was born December 6, 1957 at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio to his father Donald and his mother Elaine Hoey. He was the third of four children in his family: two older brothers, and one younger sister.

His father was serving in the Air Force at the time of his birth, so his family moved cross-country frequently during his first five years. When his father left the Air Force, he settled down and grew up in Palos Verdes next to the Port of Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Miraleste High School in 1975 and then attended several colleges and universities, eventually earning a Master’s Degree from Brigham Young University (BYU).

He served a Spanish-speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1985–1986 in Melbourne, Australia.

He married Alva Acaba in 1991 and had two children together: one girl and one boy. He and Alva were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple in 1993. Sadly, Alva was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in May 1994. After Alva’s passing, he decided to live closer to his family and moved to Utah, where he raised his children in the city of Lindon.

He was a computer and network engineer and was very knowledgeable about various electronic devices and software. He notably had worked on the radar systems for the B-2 Project while employed at Hughes Aircraft. Then over the years he had worked at several different technology-focused companies, along with some freelance programming work for local orthopedic specialists. He eventually retired from his last job at his alma mater BYU as an engineer in the Office of Information Technology in 2024. He also used his skills outside of work to help many family members and friends with their devices. He was repeatedly praised for his exceptional proficiency.

He enjoyed watching professional baseball (go Dodgers) and college basketball, tinkering with electronics, doing puzzles, reading, playing guitar, listening to podcasts and classic rock music, watching instructional how-to videos, playing open-world-crafting video games, eating meals with his family, and grocery shopping with his children.

He was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved his children and dedicated a lot of his life to them. Lately he has been proud of his two grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He also loved his Heavenly Father and had a strong testimony of the Gospel, which he would share often with his children.

He is survived by his two children: Samantha Moss and Tyler (Keliana) Moss; his two grandchildren: Colin and Noah; his three siblings: Dennis (Danièle) Moss, John (Pattie) Moss, and Robin (Dallas) Shepherd; and his two step-siblings: Jim (Jan) Johnson, and Gary (Sheri) Kovacs.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Lindon Central Stake center; 56 East 600 North, Lindon, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing before the service at the stake center from 9:30 - 10:45 AM. The interment will follow at the Lindon City Cemetery.
