Takeshi "Ted" Kanno Obituary (1925 - 2021)

WATCH TED'S LIVE FUNERAL STREAM HERE (11:00 AM MST) Ted Takeshi Kanno peacefully passed away in the morning hours Thursday June 10, 2021 with his wife Jean devotedly by his side. Ted came into the world February 18, 1925 in Kaysville, Utah, the third child of Shinji and Tamayo Kanno. The Kanno family lived in King Hill, Idaho until Ted's final year of high school. After completing his senior year at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged, at the age of 20, in December 1945. He worked at a grocery store in Ogden, Utah, and farmed with his brother Roy in Highland, Utah before he was ultimately employed as an equipment operator at Kennecott copper mine. After 30 years at Kennecott, he retired in 1985. After several years of dear friendship with his cute neighbor across the street, Ted would marry Jeannie Bailey, the love of his life, in 1989. Ted joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1990 and served eagerly and earnestly in every capacity to which he was called. He served in many callings, including service as a temple worker in the Provo Utah Temple, a service mission with his wife at the American Fork library helping children to read, and as a counsellor in the bishopric. However, most cherished service was humanitarian aid work at the American Fork stake center, where he labored until his body physically could work no more. He made many lifelong and treasured friends, which he loved and spoke of optimistically and often. Ted loved fishing, hunting, leather working, sewing, and serving others. Well into his 80s, he could be seen in the early winter mornings clearing snow for the "old folks" in the neighborhood. Ted is survived by his wife Jean, and children Brian (Star) Bailey, Nancy (Jared) Davidson, Louise (Marty) Gagan. He had 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Ted was the sweetest and kindest of gods spirits here on this earth, just ask anyone who came in contact with him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Sail on Papa and be free. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00 am at American Fork Fifth Ward Chapel, 381 South 300 East, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Veteran Memorial Park Cemetery, Camp Williams.
