Sarah Veoma Winn Slater, age 88, mother, wife and friend left this mortal existence on April 15, 2023. She was born to Milo Joseph and Aletha Elizabeth Baker Winn in Cedar City, Utah. Veoma, along with her siblings Donna Lee, Geneal and Melvin, grew up in McGill, a small mining town in eastern Nevada. She loved music and played and taught piano, played the flute in the school band, sang in the Sweet Adelines and played the accordion. She loved teaching church classes and was always extremely well-prepared with visuals and learning activities. She loved people and serving them and lifted the spirits of those whom she came in contact with. \n\nDarold Paul Slater returned from the Korean Conflict and proposed to Veoma while he piloted a small airplane on the way to a church conference. He dropped the ring on the floor of the cockpit, but fortunately for the children, they found the ring after landing and were later were married and sealed at the Manti, Utah temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.\n\nVeoma and Darold are the parents of 7 children, David, Bruce, Mark, Garth, Debbie Knapton, Lisa Dameron and Eric (deceased). Darold’s career took the family cross-country and Veoma was the chief organizer for family moves from Nevada to Utah, Texas, New Jersey, Iowa, New York, Illinois and finally to Utah, again. Veoma lived with her husband Darold and the family in Bountiful, UT for over 35 years.\n\nVeoma lived at the Summerfield Retirement Community in Orem, Utah for the past 6+ years. She was preceded in death by her husband Darold and her son Eric.\n\nFuneral services will be held on April 22 at 11:00 a.m. MST in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 10417 North 6750 West, Highland, UT where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. the same day prior to services. Interment will consist of a simple dedicatory prayer and will be in Veterans Memorial Park, Bluffdale Utah under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.\n\nCondolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
