William Lynn Anderson “Andy” Obituary (1941 - 2017)

Well if you're reading this, you're still alive and I am not. The fun thing about it is, I know, for sure, what is on the other side and I can report that all is well here. I have to admit that I was a very cute baby. Born to William Lawrence Anderson and Lucille Jense. They divorced when I was young and by the time I was 11, they had both remarried. Each one brought a very special "Angel" to our family; mom brought Dale Carter and dad brought Carolyn Strawhun, two wonderfully committed individuals who were the "glue" that kept our family together and close for over 60 years. I have a wonderful sister, Beverly Trask, and a brother, Chris Carter. Don't worry about their last names because names don't change the fact that we had the same mom. Another brother, Jan Carter, left us in 1970, the victim of a tragic motorcycle/vehicle accident. It'll be good to see him again along with Mom, Dale and Dad. I had a younger brother, Lawrence, who only survived 7 days, two years after I was born. My dad and Carol were not blessed with children of their own, but Bev and I were their kids too! After graduating from Pleasant Grove High School in 1959 I joined the US Army and served honorably for 3 years. My life after that took me to California for 13 years. I broke into the finance world in 1963, starting with Pacific Finance Loans and United California Bank. I married Linda Wood on November 27, 1976. We had 3 children, Shani, Staci and Brad. We had a happy life together until Cancer took Linda from us on December 23, 1997. I think her leaving left a permanent scar on each one of us. Her memory was with me every day. She was a Criminal Defense Attorney and before that she served as the Recreation Director for Pleasant Grove City for just over 8 years. The kids and I worked with her; our lives were imbedded in sports. Her epitaph reads: "The Defense Rests". Shani lives in Virginia with her husband, Vince Shorter and my grandson, Jake. Staci lives in Pleasant Grove with her husband, Rodger Hardy, and my grandchildren Hayli and Nash. Brad now lives in Idaho with his wife Amy. I leave each one some insurance money to share, a Book of Remembrance with a lot of information and history on me. For the most part I lived a very fun life. Before, and after Linda, I was married. Some would say too many times. But life is for learning, and if we do not learn, we pay the consequences for our choices. Each of those women played a big part in my life at the time, and I leave for them, my thanks for the memories, both good and not so good. I was not a wealthy man, but I was rich; rich in friends. My love for them was unending. I was in the business of lending money for 46 years. I retired from banking in 2007. I'm proud to say that I served well in the communities I worked in and gave personal time to United Way, The Boys and Girls Club of Utah County, Provo Rotary Club and other non-profit entities. I truly benefited from those experiences. After retirement I worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Utah County and the Athletic Department at Utah Valley University. I spent a few years inactive and active in the LDS Church. During my last few years I was active and enjoyed all of my Church callings. I loved music and all those who knew me, knew how much I loved it. Well, I always wanted to write my own obituary, I leave all of you with my epitaph: "It's not the principal, it's the interest that kills' ya!" Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Second Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Family and friends may also attend an evening viewing, Monday, January 16, 2017 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
