William Eugene Brandt Jr., our loving husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Bill, a twin to his sister Jean Brandt, was born August 30, 1931 in Lakeview (Provo) Utah, to William Eugene Brandt and Hansena Malvina Lunceford.\n\nBill was raised in Brawley, California until age 12, when he then moved to Lindon, Utah. He graduated from Orem High School in 1949. He later graduated from BYU with a degree in Computer Science.\n\nHe married Mitizi Marianne Young December 15, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.\n\nBill worked for IBM at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio for many years. He later transferred to Houston, TX where he worked writing the software for the Space Shuttle Program at NASA. He made friends with many of the astronauts while working at NASA and attended several launches.\n\nBill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His life was one of selfless service and sacrifice and always putting others first. He repaired cars for many years and gained many friends over his lifetime as a byproduct of his dedicated service and integrity. He never had an enemy. Everyone who knew him loved him. He had a knack for gathering in all different kinds of people because of his loving acceptance and kindness.\n\nBill's greatest love was his wife, Mitzi. He spent his entire married life serving her, and being a blessing to her and their children.\n\nThe last 14 years of his life, he was deaf caused by a small stroke. He suffered from extreme pain due to previous accidents while serving in the army.\n\nA few of the greatest gifts he left to others, were his example of long-suffering, patience, faith, and hope in the last years of his life as he struggled in his silent world of deafness, chronic pain due to back, leg and hip pain and surgeries. He will forever be remembered by his loved ones for all of the good he did, his funny jokes, his passion for ice cream, dogs, babies, cars, the Utah Jazz, BYU sports, and cherry coke. The greatest love of his life was Mitzi.\n\nHe is survived by his wife, four children: William Eugene Brandt III, Shelley Hatch (Kyle), Susan Heinz (Steven), and Shauna Redford (Clyde), 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and sister, Jean Lewellen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, David.\n\nFuneral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 12 noon in the Garden Second Ward Chapel, 905 North 500 West, Pleasant Grove with a viewing from 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Family and friends may also attend a viewing Wednesday evening, June 25, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove.
